As you age and go about your daily activities, you might notice that your teeth seem less bright and even yellowed. This gradual discoloration commonly occurs over time, particularly if you smoke or habitually consume tooth-staining food or drinks. Enjoying blueberries in your daily cereal, or drinking your favorite tea, coffee, wine or colas can all remove the whiteness from your teeth. But discoloration doesn’t just happen because of your lifestyle habits. Tooth stains can arise if you take certain medications like antibiotics, excessive fluoride, or if you’ve had trauma to a tooth.

Since we’re now into the fall season, the holidays are around the corner and you might find yourself the subject of photo-taking and social events, all of which can make you feel self-conscious about your less than stellar smile. Thankfully, Dr. Anne Nicholas and her team of specialists have a Zoom tooth whitening treatment that can help you attain the whiter, brighter teeth you want for a confident smile and even a younger appearance!

Teeth whitening results can vary depending on your situation and not everyone can have the treatment. If you have tooth decay or other problems with your teeth, the whitening treatment would cause sensitivity. Dr. Nicholas will assess the state of your teeth to make sure you are a good candidate for Zoom teeth whitening treatment by giving you an oral exam and a shade assessment. If she finds that you are indeed a good candidate for this safe, effective teeth-whitening system, our team of specialists can begin the in-office process of lightening the enamel and dentin of your teeth.

Zoom Whitening Steps

First, your teeth will be thoroughly cleaned and any plaque or tartar buildup will be removed. Then, Dr. Nicholas and her team of specialists will start the whitening process by putting the bleaching agent into a tray that you will hold inside your mouth for a set period of time. The length of time will vary depending on how much of the concentrated solution is needed to effectively lighten the discoloration on the teeth. Zoom whitening works by using a special Zoom light to activate the hydrogen peroxide in the gel. Once the hydrogen peroxide breaks down, it allows oxygen to penetrate the tooth’s enamel and dentin layers, which in turn bleaches any stains on the tooth’s surface. The Zoom light and the Zoom gel work together to give you at least two to three shades lighter than you had when you first came in!

Not only can our Zoom whitening treatment give you the smile you want in one quick appointment in about an hour, but it’s also simple, easy and painless. To maintain your whitened smile, you will want to take good care of your teeth by flossing, brushing twice daily and do occasional touch-ups with Zoom Weekender or Nite White gel.
